PsychodynamicPsychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy provides a space to speak freely about what is causing distress, including experiences that may feel confusing, repetitive, or difficult to put into words. Rather than approaching symptoms as isolated problems, therapy considers how they may be connected to a person’s history, relationships, conflicts, and unconscious ways of responding.
Close attention is given not only to what is said, but also to repeated words, contradictions, hesitations, silences, dreams, memories, and patterns that return across different situations.
Over time, these details may reveal meanings that were not previously recognized and help a person understand why certain difficulties persist despite conscious efforts to change.
The therapist does not offer ready-made explanations or direct the person toward a predetermined solution. Through careful listening, questions, interpretation, and attention to the timing of interventions, psychotherapy creates the possibility of hearing one’s own speech differently and developing a new relationship to recurring symptoms, conflicts, and desires.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy may be helpful for anxiety, depression, emotional distress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, identity concerns, life transitions, and patterns that continue to repeat.
At Innercare Health, psychotherapy is available for children, adolescents, and adults in Oakville and Georgetown, with virtual appointments offered across Ontario.
